Zygomatic Implants Explained

Most of us know about dental implants and, at some point in our lives, most of us will have them unless we are extremely lucky.

Black Swan Dental Spa prides itself on being up to date with the latest and greatest treatments and technology in order to be able to offer the best treatments and services to our customers.

This is why we are introducing Zygomatic Implants to you; what are they? How do they work? Will you want them? That’s what we’re here to explain.

What are Zygomatic Implants?

Essentially, they are still a dental implant but are different from the more conventional type,  because they are anchored to the Zygomatic bone, whereas other types are fixed to the maxilla.

Why get Zygomatic Implants?

The reason these are so amazing is because they can be used when the maxilla bone quality is not good enough,  or there is not enough of it for conventional dental implants. This can be due to a number of reasons and can obviously be upsetting for those who believe they can no longer have dental implants. Thanks to the Zygomatic implants there is an alternative solution that does not involve bone grafting or sinus lift procedures,  which can have a prolonged treatment and recovery time,  as well as restriction of dental wear.

How Successful Are They?

The Zygomatic Implants have only been around since the late 1990s,  but that does not mean they’re not as good. The reported success rate of Zygomatic Implants worldwide is a staggering 97-98%,  which is why we think it is such a shame that this type of implant is not offered more widely.

Are There Any Side Effects or Risks?

As with any medical procedure there are always risks. The main complication reported due to these implants is sinusitis,  which may not even appear until several years after the procedure has taken place. The placement of Zygomatic Implants may sometimes involve delicate anatomical structures, but this is why we ensure that only our very best and well-trained dentists offer this amazing treatment.

Am I Suitable for Zygomatic Implants?

To be sure, you would need to book an initial consultation and one of our highly trained dentists would advise from there. They have been used for dental rehabilitation which is the result of ageing, trauma, atrophy or even tumour resection.

They can be used in patients who have very mobile teeth,  perhaps due to disease, heavily broken-down teeth or even those who have no teeth in the upper jaw at all.
